Rent

Rent is due on the first of every month with a 5-day grace period. If rent is not paid by the 5th of every month or the 1st business day after the 5th, you will receive a $30.00 late fee and a Notice of Lease Termination letter. You then have 14 days from the date the Notice of Lease Termination letter is dated to pay your rent plus late fees or sign a payment agreement. If no payment is received by the end of the 14th day or an agreement is not signed, you will be sent to the attorney for court eviction.

Maintenance Charges

The Maintenance Department will send you a letter if you are being charged a maintenance fee(s). You then have 30 days from the date the maintenance charge letter is dated to pay your maintenance charge(s) or sign a payment agreement. If your maintenance charge(s) is not paid within those 30 days or a payment agreement is not signed, you will receive a Notice of Termination letter from the office. You then have another 30 days to pay the charge(s), but no agreement can be made. If payment is not received within those 30 days, it will be sent to the attorney for court eviction.

Excess Electric

Your meter is read at the end of every quarter (March, June, September, December). It is then posted to your account the following month and letters are mailed out to residents that owe Hammond Housing Authority for excess electric ONLY not gas usage. You pay NIPSCO for your gas bill. Once the letter of excess electric is mailed out to residents you have 30 days from the date of the letter to pay your excess electric bill or sign an agreement. If you fail to do so, then a Notice of Termination letter is mailed to you and you have another 30 days to pay your excess electric bill in full NO payment agreement will be made. If excess electric is not paid then it is sent to the attorney for court eviction.

Receipt

Once you pay your rent and you would like your receipt, you need to call the office and request a rent receipt. Receipts will ONLY be mailed out to senior citizens, handicapped & disabled residents upon request.

Payment Agreements

If you need to make a payment agreement for your rent or other charges you need to contact the office to set an appointment to sign an agreement.

Monthly Statements

Monthly statements will be mailed out to all Hammond Housing Authority residents at the end of every month. The statements include your monthly rent and any other charges that you owe to the Hammond Housing Authority.
